我们需要好好地谈

I’m a bit skeptical when someone tells me what’s best for me, how I should live or what I should think. It’s possible their point of view may be right and they may have my best interests at heart, however it is only their opinion. Dialogue is a good thing whether it’s between two people or an organization and its people. We need to talk.

Maajid Nawaz, a former Islamist extremist has espoused, “No idea is beyond reproach, no person should be treated below respect.” In other words, we should be able to talk just about anything but do it in a respectful manner. We can’t solve the world’s stickiest problems with one-way communication, one- dimensional thinking or worst of all with force. It requires various parties to sit down and talk, to hear different thoughts, going back and forth to explore different angles. We need to talk.

We need to do our part. You’ve heard it before, “be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem.” We need to pick our spots. At times we should hold our tongue, but sometimes we must speak up and express our point of view, but to do it in an effective and professional manner.

We need to talk.
